Women are judged everyday for every step they
take, for professional achievements, their body language and even for what they
choose to wear. Technically anything you will do will always be ‘under
scanner’.
Dressing up is that sweet spot which marries our private
personality with public personality. But even then, even now sarees are merely
considered as ‘cultural costume’ and not professional wear. It is considered
for formal parties but not office and God forbid if you attend a meeting in it.
This is the case specially in the corporate culture.
Dressing in a pant suit is considered power dressing but if
you choose to wear a saree, you are automatically considered timid. It is time
to redefine and bring all your sarees in all shapes, colours and sizes out like
your plain saree, woven banarsi silk saree, designer embroidered saree,
printed sarees, Kachipuram silk
saree, chiffon saree or any other saree that you own or want to buy.
Saree is no more a ‘behenji’ outfit, it reflects your
confidence to adorn a beautiful 6-yard fabric and make it look stunning. World
should know that saree is not just an outfit, draping it is a skill set that takes years to perfect.
Sarees are the new ‘Indian Boss Lady’ outfit.
Today it is about confidently dressing up in your cultural outfit and not
consider it as a costume. It is your personality, it is your culture, it holds
so much power.
Wearing Indian outfit to workplace and college
doesn’t mean that you are any less intelligent, discerning or modern. It is
time to rethink and reimagine a millennial boss women wardrobe with equal parts
pant suits and equal parts Indian clothing, with none being less than the
other.
